Antiparasitic for dogs 40-60 Kg Effitix XL, 4 pipettes, Virbac [3597133097658]
Properties:
- for use in dogs, against flea and/or tick infestations, when the repellent (anti-feeding) activity is also necessary against sand flies and/or mosquitoes.
Against fleas:
- treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis). Fleas on dogs are killed within 24 hours of treatment. One treatment has persistent efficacy against subsequent infestations with adult fleas for four weeks. The product can be used as part of the treatment strategy for the control of Flea Allergic Dermatitis (FLA), if it has been previously diagnosed by a veterinarian.
Against ticks:
- treatment of tick infestations (Ixodes ricinus).
- one treatment ensures a persistent acaricidal efficacy of four weeks against tick infestations (Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor reticulatus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus).
- if certain species of ticks (Dermacentor reticulatus or Rhipicephalus sanguineus) are present at the time of application, there is a possibility that not all of them will be killed in the first 48 hours.
Sand flies and mosquitoes:
- a treatment has repellent activity (anti-feeding) against sand flies (Phlebotomus perniciosus) and mosquitoes (Culex pipiens, Aedes aegypti) for four weeks.

Way of ussage:
Remove the pipette from the over-blister. Hold the pipette in a vertical position. Tap the narrow end of the pipette gently to ensure that all the contents are in the body of the pipette. Break the pre-cut end of the spot-on pipette along the marked line.
Make a path in the fur of the animal, until the skin becomes visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and press gently a few times, to empty the contents in two to four different points, depending on the animal's weight, along the pet's back to the base of the tail.
For guidance, for dogs under 20 kg, the product must be applied in two places, and for dogs over 20 kg, the product must be applied in 2-4 places.
Drop-stop system.

Treatment scheme:
The use of the product must be based on the confirmation of infestation or the risk of infestation, with fleas and/or ticks, when the repellent activity (anti-feeding) is necessary against sandflies and/or mosquitoes.
Depending on the ectoparasitic load, the responsible veterinarian may recommend repeating the treatment. The interval between 2 treatments must be at least 4 weeks.

Specifications:
The veterinary medicinal product remains effective after exposure to sunlight or if the animal gets wet after rain.
Avoid immersion in water or frequent shampooing of the treated dogs, as this may affect the maintenance of the product's effectiveness.
A dog with fleas can have an allergic reaction to flea saliva called Allergic Flea Dermatitis (FDA). If your dog has skin inflammation, itching and biting, excessive scratching and is restless and uncomfortable, you should seek the advice of a veterinarian to diagnose whether your animal is suffering from DAP.
To reduce re-infestation through the appearance of new fleas, it is recommended to treat all animals living in the same household. Other animals living in the same household must be treated with an appropriate product. Pet fleas frequently infest the pet's litter box, places where they usually sleep and rest, such as carpets and soft furnishings, which must be treated in case of massive infestation with an appropriate insecticide and vacuumed regularly.
It is possible to attach a tick or to be bitten by sandflies or mosquitoes. For this reason, the transmission of infectious diseases by these parasites cannot be excluded in unfavorable conditions.
Studies have shown an anti-feeding effect lasting 4 weeks for sandflies and mosquitoes. Therefore, for short-term trips (less than 4 weeks) in endemic areas, it is recommended to administer the treatment shortly before the expected exposure. For long-term exposure (eg animals living in endemic areas or trips lasting more than 4 weeks), the treatment regimen should be based on local epidemiological information.

Side effects:
Transient skin reactions at the application site (itching, erythema, alopecia) and generalized itching have been reported very rarely. Behavioral changes (hyperactivity/agitation), neurological signs (lethargy, muscle tremors, convulsions, ataxia) and vomiting have been reported very rarely.
If the animals lick themselves, hypersalivation can be observed.

Precautions:
Animals must be weighed as accurately as possible before treatment.
In the absence of safety data, the product is not used in puppies less than 12 weeks old and/or weighing less than 1.5 kg.
Care must be taken to avoid contact of the contents of the pipette with the dog's eyes or mouth. In particular, oral ingestion by licking the treated application site or contact between animals shall be avoided.
This product is very harmful to cats and can be fatal due to the unique physiology of cats who are unable to metabolize certain compounds, including permethrin. In case of accidental skin exposure, wash the cat with shampoo or soap and consult a veterinarian quickly. To prevent accidental exposure of cats to this product, treated dogs must be kept separate from cats after treatment, until the application site is dry. It is important that cats do not have access to the application site in the case of dogs treated with this product. In case of such an exposure, seek the advice of a veterinarian immediately.
Do not use in rabbits and cats.
Use during pregnancy or lactation
Laboratory studies in dogs using fipronil and permethrin did not reveal any teratogenic or embryotoxic effects. The safety of using the veterinary medicinal product has not been established in pregnant or lactating bitches. During pregnancy or lactation, the product is used only in accordance with the assessment of the benefit/risk ratio carried out by the responsible veterinarian.
