Composition: A sterile aqueous solution containing - Oxytetracycline Dihydrate Ph.Eur. equivalent to 300 mg/ml oxytetracycline base.
Indications: Alamycin LA 300 is a broad-spectrum antibiotic indicated for the treatment of diseases caused by or associated with microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline in cattle, sheep, and pigs. A wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms are sensitive to oxytetracycline, including: Bordetella bronchiseptica, Actinomyces pyogenes, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Pasteurella spp, Staphylococcus spp, and Streptococcus spp. Certain mycoplasmas, rickettsiae, protozoa, and chlamydiae are also sensitive to oxytetracycline. Alamycin LA 300 can be used in the treatment and control of a wide range of general systemic, respiratory, urinary, and local infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline. Specific indications for Alamycin LA 300 include: pasteurellosis, pneumonia, atrophic rhinitis, laryngeal abscess, joint infections associated with omphalitis, summer mastitis in cows, keratoconjunctivitis in sheep (pink eye), and in the control of enzootic abortion in sheep.
Dosage and Administration: Alamycin LA 300 is specially formulated to have a long-lasting action that consists of sustained antibacterial activity. Following intramuscular administration, blood levels persist for 3-4 days at a dosage of 20 mg/kg and for 5-6 days at a dosage of 30 mg/kg. Maximum blood levels are reached 4-6 hours after administration, making Alamycin LA 300 suitable for the treatment of acute infections. It is administered via deep intramuscular injections to cattle, sheep, and pigs for the treatment and control of diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline. Alamycin LA 300 can be administered at a standard dose of 20 mg/kg for a duration of action of 3-4 days or at a high dose of 30 mg/kg for a longer duration of action (meaning that the action lasts for 5-6 days). Use aseptic equipment.
Cattle, sheep, pigs: standard dose - 20 mg/kg (1 ml/15 kg), increased dose - 30 mg/kg (1 ml/10 kg).
The maximum recommended dose of the drug for injection at a single site: Cattle: 15 ml; Pigs: 10 ml; Sheep: 5 ml; Piglets: on the first day 0.2 ml, 7 days 0.3 ml, 14 days 0.4 ml, 21 days 0.5 ml, over 21 days 1 ml/10 kg.
Contraindications and Warnings: Do not dilute Alamycin LA 300. Although Alamycin LA 300 is well tolerated, a mild, transient local reaction may occasionally be observed. The use of tetracyclines during tooth growth and bone formation, including during pregnancy, may cause discoloration. Treatment with oxytetracycline does not completely eliminate chlamydial infection from a flock. If another product is administered simultaneously, inject at separate sites.
Pharmaceutical Precautions: Do not store at temperatures above 25ºC. Protect from light. After opening the bottle, use the contents within a maximum of 28 days. Keep out of reach of children. This product does not contain antimicrobial preservatives. Always wipe the cap before withdrawing the product. Use an aseptic syringe and needle. After first opening the bottle, note the product's expiry date.
Warning for Personnel Handling the Product: Prevent accidental self-injection. Wash hands after handling the product. In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately with water to avoid irritation.
Withdrawal Time: Meat: Animals must not be intended for human consumption during treatment. At a dose of 20 mg/kg: cattle and sheep may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 28 days from the last treatment. Pigs may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 14 days from the last treatment. At a dose of 30 mg/kg: cattle may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 35 days from the last treatment. Sheep and pigs may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 28 days from the last treatment. Milk: During treatment, milk should not be used for human consumption. Milk intended for human consumption from cows may be used only after 10 days from the last treatment. Milk intended for human consumption from sheep may be used only after 8 days from the last treatment.
Storage: If stored as indicated above, Alamycin LA 300 retains its effectiveness for 2 years from the date of manufacture. After removing the protective cap and exposing the contents to air, the solution may darken but retains its effectiveness.
