The active substance is loperamide hydrochloride. One orodispersible tablet contains 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride. The other components are gelatin, mannitol, aspartame, mint flavor, sodium bicarbonate.

Therapeutic indications.

Imodium is indicated for the symptomatic control of acute and chronic diarrhea. Imodium is part of the group of anti-diarrheal, anti-inflammatory/intestinal antiseptic drugs, being an anti-propulsive. in case of diarrhea, Imodium makes the stools more consistent and less frequent. Imodium may also be recommended if you have had part of your intestine removed, as this can frequently cause diarrhea.

Doses and method of administration.

The dose of Imodium you need to use will depend on your age and the type of diarrhea.

The orodispersible tablet should be placed on the tongue.

The orodispersible tablets are fragile and should not be pushed through the blister, as this would damage them.

To remove the orodispersible tablets from the blister:

? pull up the edge of the foil

? remove the foil completely

? press to push the tablet

? remove the tablet

Adults (including the elderly), children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 17

- for acute diarrhea (a sudden episode), administer 2 orodispersible Imodium tablets (4 mg of loperamide hydrochloride) once, then 1 Imodium tablet (2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride) after each stool. If you have a solid or hard stool or if 24 hours pass without a stool, stop the treatment.

- for long-term (chronic) diarrhea, the initial dose is 2 orodispersible tablets (4 mg) per day for adults and 1 orodispersible tablet (2 mg) per day for children; this initial dose must be adjusted until obtaining 1-2 solid stools per day, a result that is usually reached with a maintenance dose of 1-6 tablets (2-12 mg) per day.

But: Do not administer more than the recommended dose per day and per kilogram of your child's body weight (3 orodispersible tablets/20 kg), which must not exceed a maximum of 8 orodispersible tablets per day)

Precautions.

Do not take this medicine except for the approved indication and never take more than the recommended amount. Serious heart problems (symptoms including fast or irregular heartbeats) have been reported in patients who have taken too much loperamide, the active ingredient in Imodium.

Special warnings.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for recommendations before taking any medicine. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you might be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, contact your doctor or pharmacist for recommendations before taking Imodium. It is recommended not to use Imodium if you are breastfeeding, because small amounts of Imodium can end up in your milk.

Driving vehicles and using machines

Imodium has no influence on the ability to drive vehicles or use machines. Fatigue, dizziness or drowsiness can accompany diarrhea, therefore it is advisable to be cautious when driving vehicles or using machines.
